The Opportunity:

West Liberty University is seeking applications for Casual Trades Specialist. The Casual Trades Specialist will assist with the execution and completion of construction and renovation projects. This role involves a variety of carpentry duties as well as supporting the Physical Plant in ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of projects on campus. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of carpentry, construction processes, and safety practices.

This Position is a Casual Part-Time Position. An as needed type of Position.

Essential Functions of the position:

  • Support the Physical Plant with daily operations, project scheduling, and resource allocation for construction projects.
  • Carpentry Work: Perform a variety of carpentry tasks, including but not limited to framing, installing doors and windows, building and installing cabinets, trim work, and other wood-based projects.
  • Prepare and organize construction sites, including the safe handling and storage of materials.
  • Blueprints and Plans: Review construction plans and blueprints with the Project Manager to ensure that carpentry work meets design specifications and standards.
  • Material Management: Assist in managing and tracking materials required for carpentry tasks, ensuring proper usage and minimizing waste.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and regulations while working on-site to ensure a safe work environment for all staff and contractors.
  • Tool Maintenance: Maintain and properly store tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other tradespeople (electricians, plumbers, etc.) and contractors to ensure the smooth progress of construction projects.
  • Progress Reporting: Assist with the preparation of progress reports, providing updates on carpentry-related work and tasks.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed carpentry work to ensure high-quality craftsmanship and that all work is in compliance with code.


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school or relevant experience in the field of carpentry is required.
  • Clean Driving Record
